If the connection had truely succeeded to the point that there was no more
lcp negotiation, then the sho modem should show CONNECTED. If it says
CONNECTING, then its still negotiating. I would suggeste a dump of the
0x51 into the decoder ring to see what the final disposition is of the lcp
negotiation.

If others can connect with other modem types, I wouldnt think so. I would
think that telco issues would affect modems indescriminantly.
