Gettin' pretty far off topic here, but WTH... It's pretty slow tonight!

Not necessarily. Power is set up in grids, and it is unlikely that ALL of
them would be wiped out completely. Once repairs begin, the grids come up
one by one, so customers can begin using your service again... IF you're
ready! ;-)

True. Mine has a five-minute delay before it produces power. Probably to
give the engine time to completely warm up.

The company you describe here has a genuine "redundant power system." It
is almost certainly diesel powered, with a large fuel cell (filled with
stabilized fuel, of course!), fired up and tested weekly. You're talking
about a LOT more that $20K here.

Years ago, I read somewhere that businesses in LA were given BIG breaks by
the utility companies for generating their own power during peak periods.
The article showed a man in front of his store, his brand new diesel rig
visible on the roof. Railroad locomotives are also powered this way. Each
wheel is attached to an electric motor, which are powered by a generator
driven by a massive 16-cylinder deisel. So, I imagine that it can be
fairly efficient, or you wouldn't see it in such widespread use.

Could be difficult... Obviously, you need to vent the exhaust. You need
ventilation to keep the unit cool. Generators produce a boatload of heat.
How many more floors to the roof? Perhaps you could mount a unit there.

Seeya!
