Yes, I believe that it can. I've talked to people doing it.

It is a 486/66 - but it is also a different architecture. On the IRX the
CPU does almost everything, the PM-3 has a more distributed architecture so
the CPU doesn't have all of the concerns of driving the ports itself. So
it is a faster CPU, with actually less to do.
