(PM) SNMP/MRTG Problems with PMs

I don't have my SNMP terminology down, so forgive me if I screw
something up here.

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes SNMP "numbers" change ports on
Livingston Portmaster products? For example:

In MRTG, you can get stats for a specific interface by using a port
number for that port, eg port:community@portmaster will give you
incoming and outgoing traffic stats for that port. 97 is normally
the port number for "frmW1" on an OR or PM2-eR.

However, sometimes, after the line drops and comes back up, the
port number will reference another port, such as ptp5 (serial port 5).
This really screws up our traffic graphs and makes it hard to know
what's going on.

This happens on all the Portmaster equipment we're trying to graph
traffic on, including OR-HS, OR-U-AP, and PM2-eRs. It's happened
as long as we've been using MRTG (over a year, I guess), running
ComOS's from 3.2 to 3.7.2 and 3.7.1AP which we're running now.

This doesn't ever seem to happen with the Cisco routers that make
up the majority of our network, just with the Livingston/Lucent ones.

Has anyone else seen this, and more importantly, does anyone have a
solution?
