Few things come to mind.

1) If the kernel is corupt you may need to netboot the box and flip switch
two (I think) up.

2) Are you using a null modem cable

3) Use software flow control

4) I keep a old 286 running Qmodem hooked up to C0 and if the PC is off
many times I need to either power cycle the PM or do a 'reset c0' to get
them in sync
