(PM) AT&T WinModem

I have a user with an Aptiva 2159-S80 that has a AT&T WinModem (I assume
now a Lucent WinModem). He cannot connect to our new PM3 (3.8b13 CT1). He
was using our other PM3 (3.8b13 PRI) for the last few days, but now he says
he can no longer connect to it either (besides, it was long distance for
him). Set debug 0x51 shows a seemingly normal connection up to the point
where it says S12: IPCP, Open LCP, IPCP Open, Connection Succeeded, but a
sho s12 shows the port in a CONNECTING state and there it stays until
he hangs up. His computer says he is connected (of course nothing works).

Any thoughts (short of replace the modem -- He won't go for it...already
tried..."It used to work before you upgraded!")
