It is _really_ hard to ignite diesel/fuel oil. Put some on a paper towel
sometime and try and get it to burn. It's pretty tough. The towel would
burn better without the diesel. I once saw a mechanic put out his
cigarette by throwing it into a 10,000 gallon jet fuel tank. Not that I'd
want to try it personally or anything... ;-]
