(PM) Strange Radius? Problem

Hello all,

I am running radius (emerald) on NT4 with MS-SQL 6.5 server running on the
same machine. We are using ODBC and authentication data is replicated from
our Platypus billing server to this unit and a secondary unit with the same
setup.

The problem:

At the peak connection period, both authentication servers seem to have
gotten stuck in a loop. About a dozen or so of the same records kept
scrolling by on the radius debug window over and over at the max speed the
system could run. Most other requests were either ignored or timed out and
failed. Restarting radius, SQL-Server or the entire unit did not cure the
problem. I have a third SQL server with a current copy of authentication
data on it standing by and when I pointed the ODBC driver's data source to
this unit, all started working fine. I let the traffic load (and the
support calls) slow down a bit and reset all back to normal and all is well.

It seemed as though there is a 'buffer' of radius requests kept on the local
machine and the system was continuously trying to serve this buffer but
never 'clearing' the request as completed.

This system has been working for months and we may be hitting the wall on
the number of requests that it can handle but if so, I wonder why the
secondary server did the same thing at the same time?

It's got me whupped. Any Idea's??

Thanks,

Ray
