Funny thing is, I have books I've had for over a decade that aren't damaged
in any way and I use regularly.

Ever take a book into a POP? Into a network closet? I'd rather lay a book
open next to my keyboard for a quick reference as I'm working that jump
windows. If I'm looking for something I don't know the location of, which
happens, I'll use the index. If that does work then I might resort to the
CD or web to find it. If it is short them I'll just remember it, if not
then I find the corresponding book and now I know where to look in the
book to continue.
Until they develop electronic paper (don't laugh, the folks at MIT and
working on it, I've talked to them) so I can walk around with a 'book'
on electronic media, prop it open to a page, and flip back and forth - I'll
keep using the wood pulp media.
