PPP uses Echo-Requests/Replys to determine link quality (among some other
things). This is normal to see.

The thing is that they *are* real PPP "debugging output". It would be
sort of arbitrary to leave them out since they are just as much part of
the PPP session as anything else. So no, there is not really a way to
leave just them out of the output (that I'm aware of).
I would personally like to see a way to do a "set debug 0x51 sX" or
whatever (on a per port basis). This would probably help you out some.
