I suppose my use of "real" was a little subjective. Seeing the echo
requests is not useful when I'm trying to see if a connection is bailing
out in LCP, PAP/CHAP, or IPCP. The echos are just noise.

I know there isn't any way to do it _now_. I was thinking more along the
lines of future functionality. I don't think any of us would mind having
finer-grained control over what debugging output to display (specific PPP
packet types, specific ISDN data types, etc.).

For dedicated-use customers who always get the same port, that would be
great. However, I mostly use debugging during PPP startup, because the
initial connection process is where we see the most problems (config
errors, etc.), and you can't be sure what port a regular dial-up user will
get when they connect.
