We've been using some off the shelf product to get ADSL
connections upto 8 km (5.5 mi) with speeds of T1+ down and
800kbps up. I'm not at the shop and can't remember the
manufacturer but we found it by doing web search on ADSL and
checking out companies listed. This unit is a card in an NT box
at our site (with telco and ethernet connections, takes power
only from the NT box's buss) and a small boxed unit at the
client end with power transformer and ethernet connection.
Works great.
