The 5ESS speaks NI-1 and/or NI-2. NI is simply a standard protocol across
switch vendors. It used to be that you had a slightly different command
set for the 5ESS and the DMS-100 (and every other switch out there). You
can switch to 5ESS just to see if that corrects your problem, but I doubt
it.
