Re: (PM) Problems with MP/16 and PM2e

We use MP/16's. I don't remember what the dip switch settings are up
front, but make sure AT configuration is enabled (I think there's a switch
that tells it to ignore AT commands), attach to a port and type:

atq0e1<enter>

Which should tell it to echo characters and result codes, then try an
"AT<enter>" if you didn't get a response from the first command. If you
get it, then you should be OK.

Make sure your ports are set to 115200 (we could never do anything with
them at lower speeds). Your init string should be AT&F1&W. You can do a
modem table entry like this:

add modem mp-16 "USR MP 16" 115200 "AT&F1&W\r^OK"

then

show modem mp-16

to verify its OK.

Then you should be able to do a:

set all modem mp-16
reset all

Showing a given port should say "Configured" where the modem is listed,
but it may not because I think the factory configuration tells it not to
echo result codes which will fool the PM into thinking it didn't accept
the command because the PM was accepting an "OK" back from the modem.

(assuming all ports will use this type of modem).

We use the rj45 adapters with cat-5 ethernet cabling. Be careful that
you're using real patch cables that are using all 8 wires wired strait
through and not just an ethernet cable with 1,2,3 and 6 wired. This would
be insufficient because you'll need wires for DTR, CD, SX, RX, RTS,
CTS and Ground at a minumum for hardware flow control.
