I've ignored most of the previous messages in this thread, but is it
possible that the "slowdown" some people see is really caused by the
radius server? i.e. if your terminal servers are full, you might have
people checking mail anywhere from 1 every few sec or several per sec. If
the mail server is also your radius server (probably common for most small
to mid sized ISPs), then maybe you need bigger servers or more efficient
software on them.
