ISDN is the best solution to me. I'm having a hard time convincing people
to go ISDN because they don't understand it very well and it isn't as
simple as just plugging something into the wall. But I have a problem with
telling people to spend the money for X2 or K56flex when for not much more
they can add that second phone line they need and get a REAL digital
connection. To me, all the 56k stuff is just another temporary step. I
realize that this is dependent on tariffs in your area, availability, etc.
($58 per month flat rate for BRI here in SWB land).

I think we all need to push ISDN a lot harder. The telcos have done a
miserable job of deploying and marketing it. I don't really care that it
is old technology. We are dealing every day with analog phone technology
that is over 100 years old! It is here, it works great, and it has more
than adequate bandwidth for the vast majority of our users for several more
years. Down the road, who can say, but it is a good solution for now.

Also, consider that we wouldn't be having all this analog modem K56flex/X2
debate if ISDN were more widely deployed. We wouldn't even care when our
modem cards were going to arrive because we wouldn't need them! ;-)
