[Snip stuff about X2 vs K56Flex and customers]

Our company has set a precedent of supporting new and emerging
technologies, and our customer have come to expect that of us. That is
just fine as far as I am concerned. One thing that we make *very* clear
when we are asked about 56k tech is that it is absolutely bleeding edge
technology. There is not a standard and that anyone who chooses to use
56k this early in the game *has* to understand that it will continue to
evolve and change and require work on their part to keep up until the ITU
standard is decided upon. Disregard the hype by the manufacturers. In
this case, they are using the world as a giant Beta test bed, and there
are bound to be troubles. As far as a user choosing X2 versus K56Flex, I
don't know about you, but *every single* bit of information I have seen
regarding these modems informs the end users to verify with their ISP
which standard they will be supporting. It's even on the boxes. If they
coose not to do that, then they have no one to blame but themselves.
That's harsh, but what can you do.
As a side note, during these discussions with our customers, we gently
nudge them toward ISDN as an alternate, more reliable solution. As ISDN
is cheap here, quite a few of them choose to go with ISDN in the end.
