Ok,

Here we go.

Win95 on Pentium box with 28.8 modem. Dials, connects just fine. The
only prob is, it will NOT resolve any names.

What I've Done:

Removed the Dial up adapter & TCP/IP and re-installed
Removed & re-installed DUN
Force fed the DNS information via TCP/IP settings in the Network section
of ControlPanel
Yes, the DNS (Pri & Sec) are specified in the DUN connection
I have even tried Server Assigned Name Servers.
I have reloaded all of the above from 2 differnet Win95 CD's (Yes, both
same version)

What I have not done:

Format c: /u /s

After you log on, you can ping any IP address you want, but it must be
an IP address. If you type in a name, it will not resolve it and return
"Bad IP Address." I have also ran "winipcfg" to look at the active DNS
servers. Sure enough, they are listed and you can switch between the
Pri & Sec. This however, has no effect.

The problem seems to be (IMHO) when you re-install the dial-up adapter
after removing it, it refuses to copy (& hopefully overwrite the
corrupt) files from the CD. I have seen this before with a Packard
Bell, but as I said, this one aint!

Anyone seen, and overcame this type prob w/o formatting the drive?
