Perhaps this is a network design issue, whether to
use an integrated communication server or separate
controller/modem-rack units.

My own preference is for the latter, using a
Portmaster 2e with a Microcom ISPorte rack.
The modem rack can be addressed separately
from the Portmaster, and individual modems
busied out remotely.

I think integrated is fine to a point, but
I'm not convinced that putting the controller
in the same box with the modems is necessarily
the best way to go.

My 2 penny opinion, for what it's worth.
