I have a VERY old internal Zoom (NOT RPI) and it wouldn't connect to some
modems AT ALL - even a USR Courier. However, when I FORCED it to connect
at 14.4 only and not retrain, it worked like a champ. I don't know if this
would apply to a PM3 but it may - I suspect that the old Zooms simply don't
do the negotiation with the real V.34 modems properly. Try:
S37=11 N0 (that's a Zero)

Let us know if that does it - I see this question asked occasionally here.
