Sick Tones on PM-3

I'm workin' on my second PM-3. The first one (brand new) died a horrible
death as it seemed to have lost is power supply (my guess).

I've got the second up and running, however, when it answers the phone the
tones are weak and sick sounding. Not loud, clear, and distint like I'm
used to hearing when connecting to other POPs (non-livingston). The dead
one had the same characteristic. Is a PM-3 supposed to sound weak and sick?

I'm running 3.5.1b8.

Any ideas? Anyone?
