If you determined that number with msd, then take note that if nothing is
using COM3 and her modem is using COM4 (which is really more common than COM3)
then msd will report the modem (16550 UART if it has one) on COM3.

If the modem IS on COM3 and it works to dial out to other services, then
check (with MSD or the manual) to see if it really has a 16550 UART. I
have only had one client that had a modem without the UART, but one is
something. If you don't have the UART, the connection will drop due to
too many CRC errors, I believe.
