Be even more careful!

If you configured the device's service_dev as telnet, it will _lose_ the
telnet port specification and default to 600x beginning at 6000 and
incrementing one for each port you hose in this way.

It's a known bug with "attach", and a reminder: Officially, "attach" is
unsupported and undocumented.

I seem to remember, though, that they said they intend to fix that problem
eventually...
