It was never the case as far as I'm concerned.
First, anyone with Win95/98 has Stac and you can use stac with modems just
like anything else. And it DOES improve the transfer rate.
Second, any issues with ISDN were with few users and generally the trouble was
the half-baked Stac on the Ascend Pipeline. There was at least one Stac bug,
but that was fixed a while back. Most users, myself included, have been
using Stac since it was released without issue.
