3.9 will run on the old systems - 3.9b5 has been running on my OR-U for a
long time. As long as they support the old HW with the current SW I don't
see why they'd have to replace anything - this is a *new* design.

When they released the OR-U-AP they didn't replace the OR-Us...

And a lot of that time since was involved in producing the PM-4. As well
as, post merger, working on ComOS on the other Lucent products, etc. I'm
sure engineering has been rather busy.
