Well, that is partly just the way things go with all the 56k
technologies. When we got our new modem cards, we went out and bought
several modems and took them home and tried them. I got 50k connections
almost every time. I thought 56k was the greatest thing since sliced
bread. Then one day I could no longer get anything above 34k. The
phone company had done some work and the quality of my home phone lines
went to crap. 56k connections are going to always be at the mercy of
the telcos.
