Can't speak for the SLC, but over 10 years ago we used a
'concentrator' that did just that - 2 calls per ds0. It was made by
Newbridge I think... Audio was less than toll quality, but it was
used for inter-office voice between two pbx's. It saved us a ton of
$$$ over OPX's from telco.
