One of our users (and a former tech support employee we still send out on
intractable cases on either our $--if it seems to be our fault--or
preferably the user's) was having occasional connection failures to our PM3
(any ComOS version from 3.7 through 3.8b15; CT1 from a DMS-10 switch), with
a PCMCIA card modem (brand not at mind right now).

He likes to use very rapid dial rates...one evening he started
experimenting, and found that by reducing his dial rate to what is common
for many modems he eliminated the connection problems. [His card defaults
to a fast rate.]

He then tried going back to his super-fast dial rate with one trailing
comma, and has had no connection failures since. He's getting in the
mid-40s with Flex...about what we see.

It's at least fooling about with.
