Yes, Amber is a Class Act. Pardon the pun.

Its one thing to claim that using technology xyz will do a, b, c better
than some other technology etc., but in this case Andy has *proven* the
point!

I'm sure that there is a significant piece of code behind the basic
framework that's been established for the current Amber beta - now these
guys are free to concentrate on the applications at hand.

The other issues regarding Java, especially run-time speed, will work
themselves out over time with JIT technology and better VMs. Also the
general purpose computer hardware keeps getting faster...

On the topic of optimum execution hardware, the tide has turned away
from the fast uni-processor machine, in favor of multiprocessor
machines. And Java was designed to support multi-threaded applications
from day one. So the savvy ISP needs to think about equipping himself
with multiprocessor machines running OSes that can take advantage of
those processors.
