(PM) using the serial ports of the port master

Hi,

[maybe somebody would be kind enough to point me to the right
direction on this matter?]

I have an application (say a program that needs 8-bit control
of a serial port) that we would like to extend over our network
to a another building where there are telephone lines. On the
remote side, I am thinking of putting a PM2 with a serial
cable for each modem/line combo.

First off, since in.pmd is not supported any more, I won't bother
anybody by asking where I can get it/etc.

Is there a recommended strategy for setting up a portmaster service
that can be accessed from a UNIX device /dev/tty?? -> pm serial port.

I remember that some mention was made of programs in the DOS/Windows
environment that attached serial ports remotely and made them
available locally, but what I am looking for is unix o/s support.

Essentially a reverse telnet approach I would think.. ?????
