(PM) no ppp

Or so it would appear.

It's the same set of Portmaster25s that I was asking about before, thanks
all, I'm using OSPF and the routes are updating and everything seems
happy with that, but..

after it's been up and running for awhile (like 10 minutes) I start seeing
folks trying to get it and it hangs in CONNECT. Hmmm, says I. I dialed
into with with Win95 DUN. It (the windows box, and you know how bright
they can be) hangs on "Verifying username and password" and then tells me
'Could not establish a compatable set of protocols'

So I do it using iijppp on my FreeBSD box, where I can start a terminal
session that will switch to PPP once authentication is accomplished. And I
get this:
--------------------------------------------
atdt*******
CONNECT 2400/REL
Northwest Link Dedicated Modem Pool

Portmaster username: tagrego
Password:
PPP session from (209.20.129.7) to 209.20.132.8 beginning....
---------------------------------------------

and it will stay there until I reset the port or hang up the modem.

Does anyone have any idea about what might cause this?

Here's a typical modem setting (all of the modems are set like this):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Status: IDLE
Input: 48 Parity Errors: 0
Output: 36 Framing Errors: 0

Login Message: Northwest Link Dedicated Modem Pool

PAP is enabled, CHAP was disabled until I turned it on to see if that
might help, but it's no, so I'll probably turn it back off.

If you have anything that might help, I'm all ears! (or eyes, as the case
may be ;-))
