Hello Joe, Karl and Jack.

This thread has totally got out of hand. I will not even quote any of it
as it has managed to get so hugh. I am sure glad that you guys are not
handling the IRAQy situation at the moment. I know everyone will know
what I am talking about. Everyone will get reviews about their products
that suck once in a while.
OK. I don't believe the test results, but that is because I deal with
most of the products described on a day to day basic. And none of them
suck. They are each better at some things than others. For example,
Lucent PM3( I prefer Livingston as a name) is probably the best for
performance when all 60 channels are in use. (I am in Europe). But
Ascend have more bells and whistles.
I think Lucent should have tried to investigate how the tests where
carried out. If 3rd parties were used and if so ring them and see if
something was causing problems that could be fixed. If Livingston did
find any problems. They could fix them for the customer and kindly ask
the reviewer to retest. If the magazine was then kind enough to explain
that the bad performance was not caused by the livingston box and here
are the new test results. Then everyone would be happy. I personnally
saw a review in DATA COMMS which implied that Livingston stac
compression was next to useless. I sent the reviewer an email explaining
how stac should be enabled. The next day he replied saying he had redone
the tests and had updated their web site. The Livingston box turned out
to be very good against the main competitors here in the UK. The
reviewer thanked me explaining that he makes every effort to make the
tests fair. If I had slagged him off like I think Joe Sasek gave us all
the impression he was doing. I doubt the reviewer would have redone the
tests. After Joe's slagging of Jack. And Jack equally low kick in
return. I am left wondering if there is anyone here who is at all
professional. Hey you guys, relax and have a good time.
Cheers
James
P.S. Those guys in developement are lifesavers sometimes.
