My take on this would be to do it the way Axis does for their print
servers:

1. Add an arp entry for the new PM to the arp cache on your computer (the
ether address is already on the serial number sticker on the back of every
PM).

2. Ping the new IP, the new PM without an address listens and learns its
new IP address.

Very simple and clean, suggested this long time to MZ, but didn't get any
response.
