Which model Presario is the modem installed in. You may need to update
the flash rom
of the modem. In some cases I have seen several models that are not
upgradable. These modems
were either sporting the K56Plus flavor or were simply not flash
upgradable. If that is the
case you will have to contact Compaq Tech support to do an exchange...
However, this may cost
