The lines are ESF/B8ZS, wink start, delivered via fiber from a CLEC (ACSI),
connected to a Lucent 5ESS switch. The receive level on all of the lines is
"+2dB to -7.5dB". There aren't many alarms or violations recorded (2 Blue
alarms and 36 Multiframe Sync errors for a box that's been running for 12
days).
There have been enough complaints to alarm me a little bit. At first I was
convinced that they were isolated instances of problems or end-user
configuration problems, but there have been enough of them with common
symptoms that I think there may be something wrong on our end. We haven't
been able to identify a commonality between people who have problems. They're
calling from various COs, using various types of modems (a lot of Sportsters,
but in any group of 10 people 5 of them are probably using Sportsters). The
fact that most of the people with problems were connecting OK and they
suddenly started having problems all at the same time makes me think a telco
issue is more likely than anything else (again, we haven't touched the PMs
since upgrading to 3.7.2 when it was released).
What I'm looking for are some ways to get more detailed debug info about the
CT1 signal. Or, information about "line padding" switch parameters. I found
some recommended settings for the DMS-100 in the list archives, but didn't see
any specific info about 5ESS switches. Has anyone been through that before
with a 5ESS?
Thanks,
Mark
