I don't see this as a choice. The modem table is ONLY used on boot and
when a manual 'reset' is issued. It has nothing to do with answering a
call, nor is it used after each call.

USERNAME results if the port does not have modem control turned on, or
if it is on and the modem is holding DCD high.
