That is a bad idea. It makes the listserv machine do a lot more work.
Rather than send a single message to 1000 recipients, it has to send a
1000 messages, each to one recipient, because now you've made each message
unique.

Much better to fix this on the receiving server side. Many mail servers
and an "(env-to ...)" bit in the Received headers, showing the envelope
recipient. Also, many mail servers have options to add an "Envelope-To",
or "X-Envelope-To:" header to all incoming mail. This is trivial to do
with Sendmail, and the newer stuff adds this stuff now.
