(PM) Call routing effects K56Flex ????

Hi,

We have a local rate number provided by Energis in the UK, this means
that incoming calls on this number get routed by Energis into our PM3.

We have found that calls that are direct to our PM3 (not through the
local rate number) are able to achieve K56Flex speeds (34-50K) however
calls that are routed through the Energis number cannot connect above
33,600. (these are calls from the same user with exactly the same
settings/equipment)

I have spoken to Energis about this and apparantly they have had similar
problems with USR kit. They also assure me that their system is TOTALLY
digital and there are no additional A-D's going on AND to add insult to
injury, this problem does not effect Ascend kit.

Although their tests have been in-conclusive they think that the problem
could be due to the fact that there is a slight delay in each switch in
the chain actually completing the call whereas the PM3 is answering
immediately, therefore the very beginning of the v8bis tone is being
missed which is causing the modems to not negotiate a K56Flex
connection.

Apparantly (according to Energis) this is unlikely to be a problem in
the US as call completion is handled slightly differently there
(something about we use C7....)

So my question (mainly for European users) Is anyone else using a
similar Local Rate call routing system and seeing similar results ???

I have raised this with our distributor (who is escalating it to LE) but
I thought I would ask the question as he hasn't heard of any similar
problems.

Energis have made the suggestion that if we could delay the v8bis tone
for 1/2 a second this may cure the problem but of course there is no way
to do this via a ComOS command.

Cheers

Phil T, yes Phil C you were right it didn't take long for this to get on
the mailing list ;-)
