What does this mean? It means that if you want to post to the list you
need to email from the address you are subscribed under. If you email from
a different address, majordomo sidelines your post and at best it gets
returned to you when I have time (along with the above note). At worst it
goes to /dev/null.
The vast majority of people are unaffected by this, but there are usually
a couple of posts each day that get blocked and a few people have responded
with a 'I didn't know' when I explained it. So I posting this again. It
is in the 'welcome' message for new subscribers so they should know better
also.
If you are reading from a local mail-to-news gateway or local exploder,
and you *really* need posting access, send me a list of addresses and I
can add them to the permit list. This is not many people, and I've
already done this for those who asked. Now, if I get a list of 20 people
from someone, or every permutation of an address, I'm going to look at it
real questionably. I'm trying to be nice and be flexible with things, don't
abuse it, ok?
And, BTW, there have been a handful of garbage posts blocked by this
already. A couple of outright spam posts, some crossposted junk from
another list, and some folks selling a bunch of stuff which was mostly
non-livingston (nearly all). So I think this is working ok fine.
