I have done some experimenting with the compression in Windows NT and I
would love to have the same kind of speed in the Portmasters. We can call
into the RAS on a Windows NT and the throughput speeds are much greater
than the speeds through the Portmasters or any kind of access server that
we have used.

As an example: Using Windows 95 dial up networking we call into the
Portmaster system and then ftp into OUR site and download the file called
Speedtst ( a file that is just a large text file - 730K ) and it downloads
in about 60-70 seconds. We can use the same windows 95 dun and call into
the analog modem (USR) connected to a Windows NT RAS connection and
download the same file in 20-30 seconds. We have tried it with executable
files and the results are that the Windows NT RAS machine is much faster.
Although the executable speed difference is not as great as the text file
it is still considerably faster. (approx 45 sec for the livingston and
approximately 35 sec for the Windows NT RAS).

Email me for more details on the testing and the phone numbers if you want
to try it for yourself. I wish Livingston made a card that I could put
into a Windows NT machine for the ISDN and K56 modems. It would be
awesome.
