Connection trouble ComOS 3.5

We recently upgraded our portmaster from ComOS 3.3.1 to ComOS 3.5.
Since the upgrade we have been experiencing problems with low-end modems
connecting
(ie. 14.4 and lower) - before the upgrade we could connect right down to
2400 bps no problems.

Another problem is that when dialing in with trumpet winsock *all users*
get garbage characters after submitting password. Their connects are
still successful if they hit ESC after the garbage appears

My question is basically whether this version of ComOS is known to have
bugs with the low-end connections and whether we should upgrade to a
different ComOS. The machine is actually a PM-2eR-30 but ComOS shows it
like this:
Livingston PortMaster PM-2e ComOS 3.5
