To my knowledge, it is worth pursuing whether said customers have PC-Tel
type modems, in which the customer's CPU plays modem DSP in a rather
unconventional, but cheap, design.
That's what we found was the cause in 100% of the "freezeups" reported to us.
If that is the case, the likely solution is to upgrade to version 2.17 of
the driver for the modem.
