ComOS 3.7 strangeness (fwd)

Once upon a time Stefan Hudson shaped the electrons to say...
>The new Connect-Info attribute doesn't get sent in all accounting
>packets. It looks like only non-56K get Connect-Info set; K56flex
>connections don't get a Connect-Info attribute, although many times
>users with K56flex modems that only connect at v.34 speeds also
>do not get the attribute set.

Hmm - if you can confirm that contact support and report it as a bug.

>The release notes state that 3.7 does not support speeds above 28800
>on "True Digital" modems. This is not correct. We've been seeing
>many connections at 31200 and 33600 on both units. On a related

Read it as "does not OFFICIALLY support". Officially the old cards go to
28.8K. They do that reliably and well. Yes, they *can* get 31.2K and 33.6K
but we never got it tweaked to a point where we were comfortable saying we
did it officially. Consider it an undocumented feature I guess.

>note, is there any way of seeing separate transmit and receive speeds?

'show m#'

>WHY do K56flex connections appear as "42K" or "50K" in the "show modem"

Just because that's how we did it.

>table? Doesn't ANYONE at Livingston care about consistency in displays?
>It doesn't show 24000bps connections as "24K". So what if it's a
>K56flex protocol connection... it STILL should show the speed the same

Personally I like the xxK better. I don't see how it makes much of a
difference. Easy enough to script for.

>Is it just me, or should the "Disconnect" field in "show modems" be
>cleared on modems that currently have active connections? It looks

No. This is specifically NOT done so that people can see what the
last call did. This is what was asked for in the first place - and
why that field was added.

>This one is more of a feature request, but how about making it so that
>the "set modem off" command will not take a modem out of service until
>the current connection is dropped? Our Multitech analog rack modems

That's called a softbusy and it is already an open request. A very
popular one at that, so I expect it will be done soon.
