No Modems... Why?

This is the basic sequential chain of messages I have seen, now what
happened here? :(

I just read the message from Luther Keal, about showing more patience
about these modems, but the messages below appear to have a flat out lie
in them somewhere. Message 2 is very incriminating isn't it, or did
someone actually get some modem cards?
