US West just came out with a new tariff called Uniform Access Solution
that is a new twist on their Channelized T1s. It is about 1/3 cheaper
than their regular CT1s by stripping the service of all unnecessary
features, they claim. Does anyone know if this will work okay, plugged
into a PM3? Attached is the fax our rep sent to us:

UNIFORM ACCESS SOLUTION (UAS)
OVERVIEW

U.S. WEST is offering a new service tailored especially to meet the needs
of its growing roster of ISP (Internet Service Provider) and catalog sales
customers-Uniform Access Solution.

UAS is a bundled service that answers the unique needs of those
specialized customers and helps them take advantage of the cost
efficiencies that arise when the separate elements of the service are
combined. It is a perfect new solution for heavy users with a
single-number call in who find an ISDN line would be too much for their
needs.

The foundation of UAS is DS1 service-a high capacity, high-performance
digital transport service that rasmits voice and data traffic at 1.544
Mbps with virtually no noise or distortion. With UAS, the DS1 is
multiplexed into as many as 24 separate channels (DS0s) operating at 56
Kbps each.

A key attribute of the new service is single-number access, which sets it
apart from DSS. ISPs and catalog sales companies need only one number for
their end-users to access their service with. Callers to ISPs using UAS
are routed onto one of the 56-Kbps multiplxed channels. Mail order
customers calling in to the company's main number are routed directly to
the first available answering station.

The trunkside channel terminations bundled with each DS1 in UAS offer a
pure digital solution-because there is no line-side element to thsi new
service, there are no messy analog-to-digital conversions needed. The DS1
includes the equipment necessary to interface each of the individual
channels with the central office switch. And the network connection
provides switching to local and toll networks.

Tariffs for the Uniform Access Solution have been filed in all 14 U S WEST
states, and the service will become available between July 15 and August
27, 1997, where approved.
