SNMP beginner

I'm setting up an SNMP monitoring tool (scotty/tkined), and I'd like to be
able to monitor ports on an IRX-114 to see if they're maxing out their
bandwidth.

(Background: customer is on a 56K DDS-II link, complains about poor network
performance. I notice their ping times can be quite high, like 2-3 seconds,
from time to time. I think they're maxing out their bandwidth, and would
like to be able to give them some evidence of this to persuade them to go to
an ISDN line.)

Since I'm a rank beginner at this, I'm not sure what variables available to
me in the MIB are what I want to monitor. Pointers to this and suggestions
on other helpful variables to monitor would be greatly appreciated.
