ifconfig is NOT a way to change settings permanently. You *must* use the
'set ether0 netmask x.x.x.x' convention. ifconfig will change it for that
session, but it will revert to the saved configuration after a reboot.
ifconfig changes it only on the active interface, not in FLASH - and a save
will not save it.
Also, we strongly discourage the use of the netmask table with 3.5 and up.
