I would suggest that you purhcase a telephone controlled electrical switch
then. You can buy these units and connect the PM to it and a phone line.
You can then call the unit and it will turn any electrical device plugged
into it, on or off. Its not quite like an X-10 since its stand alone, but
the same idea.

I used to use them to conserve energy before there was such thing as
energy management. I could call up my PC anywhere BOX at home and the
switch would turn on the PC, then id wait 1 minute and call back and the
modem would pick up. The switch was told not to answer until the 4th ring
or so.
