Portmaster ports in USERNAME mode, with special cables.

We have a portmaster pm25, ComOs 3.3.3, with special cables to go directly
from portmaster to Microcom ISPorte modems. All of the ports are in
USERNAME mode, but they all work. Is this because of the cabling? What
can be done to make the ports show as IDLE.

Everything works fine, so I guess the cable is wired strangely.
