Ascend is running scared

Once upon a time Jeff T. Carneal shaped the electrons to say...
>Dunno...I just got this...what's Livingston's take on it? I also heard
>the same thing from an Ascend rep that called us a couple of weeks ago...

Ascend is running scared because they know the PM-3 is better and lower
priced. What they are trying to do is get you to buy a MAX now - and a
completely outdated MAX 4000 with the outdated modem cards at that - so
that you will have Ascend and be less likely to add to your management
load by supporting Livingston and Ascend boxes on the same network.

>Livingston users have felt the need to upgrade their Portmasters and rack
>modems to an integrated solution. Ascend has filled the needs of NSP's

Yes they have. Hence the PM-3. Duh.

> MAX 4000 Chassis ----------------- 18,500

Old tech. Not even a 4002/4004

> CSU/DSU -------------------------- 3,000

Ooh, ours in included standard.

> ISDN Signaling ------------------- 1,000

Isn't it silly that they sell ISDN optional in a PRI box?

> 48 Digital Modems (6 DM-8 cards)- 36,000

Lame, outdated, dead end modems. Ascend has newer models. Can you say
"Dumping old stock" boys and girls? I knew you could.

> MAX 4000 Rack Mounts ------------ 100

PM-3 has those built in.

> TOTAL $58,600
> Price to NSP's $19,950
> Discount off list 66%

A 2 PRI PM-3 with 48 modems is $16,861 at ISP pricing for North America
customers.

Even with Ascend desperately giving away old technology and slashing their
prices, they can't beat us.
